A Napier plumbing family since 1964

How it started

Bev and Mike Carroll started the business in Napier in March 1964. It was a different town then, and a different trade: no continuous flow hot water, no plastic pipe, and a lot more lead than anyone would like to think about now.

Mike died in 1996. Their son Brendon, by then a plumber himself, took the business on with his wife Cherrie, and the two of them have run it ever since. The name stayed the same because the name was the point.

Who you actually deal with

There are seven of us. Five plumbers on the road, and Brendon and Cherrie in the office on Cadbury Road. Cherrie and Kerryn answer the phone and the email, which is why you get a straight answer about timing rather than a message taken by somebody in another city.

Brendon holds Craftsman Plumber registration and is also qualified in gasfitting and drainlaying. Holding all three in one firm is less common than it used to be, and it is the reason we can take a job from the tap to the drain without handing it to anyone else.

How we work

Most of our work still comes from repeat customers and word of mouth. That shapes how we quote and how we talk to people: there is no advantage to us in selling someone a new cylinder when the element is the problem, because in a town this size that catches up with you.

Quotes are free, from a site visit or from photos, whichever suits. We answer almost every enquiry the same day. The minimum charge is half an hour of labour. If we are not the right firm for your job, we will tell you that too.

What we are not

We are not a 24 hour emergency service. We work Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, and after-hours work is limited to customers we already look after. We also do not do new roofing, only roof repairs and spouting. It is better that you know both of those before you ring than after.
